Default 94 Camaro interior rear view mirror fell off

So usually I see an allen screw that holds the inside mirror to the button bracket that glues to the windshield. Instead mine has a very strong spring clip that clamps the mirror on to the button bracket. What I'm used to doing is gluing just the bracket on to the w/s and letting it dry over night before reattaching the mirror. The problem I have is I'm not sure if I'm able to push the spring clip back after gluing because it is really really stiff. I'm afraid the pressure need to push the clip may break the windshield. The only other option I think I have is clip the bracket back on to the mirror assy and try to hold it steady for 15 min. as the instructions call for. Ive done that in the past but had it fall off a few weeks later. So if you've done his before by gluing just the button, please tell me how the hell you were able to force the clip back on without breaking anything. Thanks

Yup, did one a while back on my old '98 S10 pickup, it's a PITA to get back on.
