Default Z28 and the SS

I am kind of new to Camaro's and I am looking to buy one. First off I would like to knowwhat Z28 and SS stand for or whatthey are. Also what is the 0-60 time for a 2000 Z28 Camaro and its top speed stock. Are the 01 and 02 Z28 models faster than a 2000. Alsowhich is betterthe Z 28's or theSS's. How much slower would a normal Camaro be to a Z28 Camaro. Sorry for asking so many noobish questions but I have no idea and would like to know the answers. Thanks for your help.

Z28 was a factory code for aspecial racing package offered in 1967 and 1968. The term "Z28" gained a lot of glamour press (cars with the option were wickedly fast) and GM responded by using it for years as the premium (fastest model, period) of the Camaro.

"SS" means super-sport and goes back sometime into the very later 50s or early 60s: there were 1963 SS Impalas with the right option packages that were street racing kings. Over the years, though, "SS" labels were put on anything that GM thought would benefit by selling for a bit more money with a sporty image.

With respect to LT1 and LS1 Camaros, Z28 basically meant "V8" and SS meant "V8 with a bunch of performance mods" -- the SS was the more expensive and nominally faster car. The difference in power was slim - only 10-15 actually at best, but SSs have steering coolers and bigger wheels and etc.

The biggest difference if the SS has the hood scoop and the Z28 does not.

Performance wise the SS is no faster than a Z. Mine does not have a power steering cooler, that might be an LT1 thing?

SLP claims 5.2 seconds for the 02 SS, since they both have the same power then the Z should be the same. The SS is basically a cosmetic thing with a couple of suspension tweeks.

01 and 02 LS1's had the LS6 intake and the manifolds were better. All LS1's btw (even Vettes) dyno the same, 290-310 at the wheels with an M6 and 01/02's being at the higher end of those figures.

Alih:I like your sig, but you forgot...soda comes in 2 litres also!

find yourself a cheap Z28 95 and up... pull the LT1 and drop a LS2 motor from GMperformaceparts... you can get a good Z for a bout 2 grand and the motor will run ya about $5000... and you'll have one bad *** camaro.. all for under $8000...

Yepp, It's cheaper really to just find and LS1 and sick it up, or get an LT1 for cheaper still and fix THAT up. The parts are cheaper for it and you can make it scream just as nasty as an LS.

I know that it not just a yank and drop deal.... I have done plenty of engine swaps..it know what it takes..

I will be doing a swap in my 95 Z28. i ordered up the new LSX block from here"http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...P1764C113.aspx" so hope fully I will have everything done within the next 6 months.. I'll try and post some pics along the way...
