quick question .. have new engine in car and earlier this week the car decided it dint want to to start. I have good battery , lights etc , I can hear the fuel pump kick on but when trying to start nothing .. no click of solenoid. The starter is vantage 97 and is most likely the issue but was wondering if there was a fusible link in the system.
The car runs fine , just tutned it off and cant restart it now.

big wire to the starter should have power (12 volt) all the time, the small wire to the starter should have power when the ignition key is turned to the start position. could be the ignition switch needs adjusting

please pay careful attention. The OP was ready to check lots of things but did not consider that he himself had introduced a variable, a different key, but did not even consider it could be suspect nor does it seem that the OP realized he has a VATS system in the car
the most important tool you can have about anything you want to fix is either first hand knowledge of how the thing is supposed to behave when normal, or access to a person or resource with that same knowledge
Then, if item A was working OK or so-so, and you introduced 1 variable and now item A is not functioning or is functioning worse, then the introduced variable must be at the top of the suspect list. We see it all the time in posts from guys who change their spark plugs or O2 sensors and state that it can't be those items.
end coachable moment
