Default Window Motor or Regulator

I am going to be replacing the motors on both the driver and passenger sides tomorrow. I know for sure the passenger window was working fine 'til it started getting slow, then it would work when it wanted to. Now it doesnt work at all. I'm pretty sure that is a sign that the motor slowly died, right? As far as the driver side window. I'm not too sure. I know it was working right when I bought the car. Then the motor started to act up. I loaned the car to my brother for a year. When I got it back the window goes up and down by hand, doesnt respond to swtich at all. The window feels loose, and yes I can move it up and down freely by using my hand. Does this mean it is off the regulator? Or maybe my regulator is broken? How can I tell if the regulator is okay? How hard is it to replace/repair it myself? Thanks for the info in advance! =)

its not to hard, its the pop rivits that you use are so big its tough to find anyone with one that will do the . at least around here. some chevy shops carry them but the ones here had to do the window as well. i ended up buying a big pop riviter to do mine. go here

then here, its for only changing the motor but has some good info.

pick up a factory service/shop manual for your yr and model. the only way to go.

Riviting the regulator is the correct way to make it happen but you can use a small bolt and washer as well. Use a lock washer and a flat washer but make sure the bolt is small. Most body shops will have these rivit guns and rivits and they may let you borrow it or for a small fee rivit the regulator in for you. Get everything ready to go and the price should be cheaper than if they have to fish the regulator in the door and take off the door pannel etc...

Well, I went ahead and did the passenger window motor. I put in a Pioneer aftermarket speaker while I was in there. It was very simple to do. The hole thing about riviting the regulator sounds a little complex. I may have to have the dealer do it. Don't think I have the patience for loaded springs and parts flying everywhere lol.

If I take it to a shop, can I have them just fix the regulator? Or do they have to do the regulator and the motor at the same time? I would like to just have them fix the regulator and do the motor myself, to cut down on cost and what not. BTW does anyone know what the average charge is for having the regulator and or motor done at a shop? Thanks =)

its a little over 100 bucks for the oem regulator and motor. thats what it was last yr, lol. its easier to change the regulator and motor than just the regulator. and from what i could tell from changing them on mine it was just as easy as it would have been changing just the motor. have this so far may help. one of these days ill have to get all these things orginized so i can get them in a sticky.

Forget the rivets, I drilled mine off with my drill, and then replaced them with bolts I bought from autozone. It's a lot easier and cheaper than going the dealer. Installing the motor and regulator is not that difficult if you have the patience and tools.

The regulator is about $100 (new) the motor is about $40 (remaned) but in order to replace the motor you need to remove the regulator from the door. so you might just want to drop a little more and get the whole assy. I got lucky, (kinda) when my car was hit I needed to replace the door and the new door had a good motor in it. My old one was shot and I had to assist it up. I would have rather not had my car hit but at least I didnt get hit with 2 bad motors.
