what's it worth

So i'm trying to decide what to do, i ended up getting my Camaro in a trade. I was supposed to sell the car to someone i knew which is why i got it but he never came up with the cash, so now i'm stuck with a car that i don't really want, so i'm trying to decide what to do to do with it to get the most money out of it. It's a 97 camaro 3.8 v6 automatic with 205k miles on the body and 100k on the engine according to the previous owner.

What it needs at the moment that i can find, Wiper motor is bad, the clock spring is bad(air bag light is on),the upper dash cover is for a firebird (doesn't fit well), the arm rest is broken, the ashtray lid is broken, the carpet is worn through, the ds seat is ripped, the catalytic converter is broken, the control arm bushings are bad, the brakes need to be changed, front bumper is ripped, and it needs a paint job (i'm a painter so that will be at cost) Ther's probably more but i haven't found it yet.
So my question is how will i get the most money out of it should i (let me know what it would be worth)
A) sell it as is
B)Fix it up to a really nice condition
C)Just throw a paint job and sell it that way
D) just part it out
I appreciate the advice, i do enjoy driving it but i already have sports car in my life

Id say about $1,000. as she sits.

The previous owner really let that thing go, i'd put it on Craigslist and just list the price as "best offer." If you can lay down a nice paint job at little to no cost it would increase the value significantly. If you can make the car as presentable as possible while spending the least $$ you'll maximize profits. Maybe go to a pick and pull and find a nice carpet set out of a wrecked camaro for cheap. A new front bumper can be had cheap too. It all depends how far you wanna go with it.

a paint job will run me right around $400, i plan on going to look for parts tomorrow and see what i can come up with if the junk yards will make me a good deal i should be able to fix it and make some money, i priced out parts and paint at around $1200 from ebay, might be more depending on what else i find when i tear into it. What is a nice one going for? the only real killer for this one is the milage.

Thats not the only real killer.... the interior is really beat, its a V6 and an automatic. I just bought a 93 Z28 6 speed one owner car with an immaculate interior and a ton of recent maintenance items done (MSD Opti, water pump, radiator,ALL fluids, plugs, wires and on and on...) for $2600. The mileage on it is 148k Im not trying to bust your ballz, just giving my honest opinion.

Heres a pic of the 93 I just bought.

Yeah I would do a cheep paint job and try and get it to look as nice as possible and sell it. If I'm looking for a car and the add says 200,000 miles and engine has 100,000 unless there is proof of this I'm going to assume the engine has 200,000 miles also. But if it looks nice chances are you will get more money.

part it out or sell as is. value is as said about 1k if not less. you can put 1500 into it to get 2-2500.

it's market based. How many Camaros are available in your area? Sixers are less desirable than v8's. So, maybe you drop $500-$600 for a cheap single stage paint job (keep it green to match the jambs) and it still might only be worth $1,000. Could you get $600 without being painted; that's the question and then you make your decision using facts

Got it, does anyone need any parts?

torque_is_good 05-17-2012 08:19 AM

i just read your list of what it needs (i missed it the first time)

you may find people who need a panel or 2 but used auto trannies are a dime a dozen and frankly, worthless. 10 bolt rears again, a dime a dozen. The used and tired sixer, again, worthless

the interior is tired and a good interior is always marketable so there goes any hope for that

you might get $50 from the bone yard but try to sell the rims for $100-$150 for all 4 and see if there are any takers

and what the heck is that strange white substance all over the ground. It sure looks yucky to me. How anyone could live in an area with that strange white substance is beyond me......
