When your transmission goes out, whats ussually cheaper or better way to go, getting it completely rebuilt by someone or pullin one from the junk yard?

Just pull yours and have it rebuilt...Most of the stuff in yards is ragged out anyway. I pulled my 4L60E myself and had it done by a business right next door to where I work....Less than $500 and its just fine and it now has the better clutches & bands and a Beast sun shell.
Its not nearly as easy a tranny to pull as my 74' Monte but once you figure out how to work with zero room to spare its easy.
If you got a broken 6 speed....I imagine the same would be true.
My tranny broke the front pump because the guy who owned it before me let some idiots work on it and put the wrong converter in it...Nobody will care as much as you...So now I do all my trannies myself except for the bench rebuild part. Even my flexplate was put in backwards...thats how dumb the shop was that worked on it.
