I generally put the 87 in mine, then again its a 6. One of my teachers told me to take a trip out to a laporte track and drop some 120 into it x.x

really??...in the words of my favorite ESPN announcers "C'mon man!"

that analogy is awful...and its not anywhere close to the truth.

if your running a v6 I can understand the using mid-grade or regular...i use regular in my 2005 v6 magnum, but in my lt1...only premium, high compression motors especially. burns cleaner, better mileage, and a tad bit more power...why wouldn't you use premium?

If you daily drive your v8, do a mileage comparison. Try to keep the same driving habits (if you drive like a bat of hell it really won't matter I guess). I've done this and I've notice my better mileage with premium offsets the price of mid or regular.

It has absolutely nothing to do with how many cylinders you have or if its a stroke or 4 stroke. It comes down to compression. by that logic more cylinders means more octane that must mean my v10 needs 100 octane lol.

Just checked the owners manual. they recommend 91 for lt1s it says you can use less but obviously it ill reduce performance because it will trip the knock sensor. It says the v6 only needs 87.

here i the UK the minimum grade you can buy is 95 with 97 being around average and 99 is sold at Shell stations. Will this not do any damage as i didnt realise the grades wer so low over there in comparison?

They're not that low, that's not an apples to apples comparison. The U.S., Canada, and a couple other countries use the "AKI" rating (Anti Knock Index), whereas the UK and practically the rest of the world uses the "RON" rating (Research Octane Number). AKI is about 5 points lower than RON, so your 95 is equivalent to our 90.

Using a higher octane than what the engine requires/recommends will not do any harm, other than to your wallet.

the cheapest petrol here is around £6.38 a gallon. over $10 per gallon for bsic 95 ron fuel. it cost me £80 to fill up or roughly $125
