Hello I own an 02 3.8 and last week I went to get smogged and a catalytic convertor code popped up so I replaced the cat, well today on my way to the smog shop again another code popped up abs it's p0140 which one place told me its the egr valve solinoid another place said it was the egr valve itself and the smog shop said it was something to do with my tranny.. Well since the code was only pending I was able to smog.. But of course I want to get it fixed.. Can I get a straight answer without having to pay for nothing thrs not needed

EGR? Really? I'm looking in my book and P0140 is for the drivers side post-cat O2 sensor, and naturally when I get a code for O2 sensor, I figure it might just be the O2 sensor that's wrong 99.99% of the time. Haha
And normally I'd tell you not worry about it since it's just the rear O2 and they just monitor the efficiency of the cat, but since you live in smog/emissions state, I'd get it replaced.

Seriouosly this is why taking my car anywhere for someone else to fix is my last resort. They can't even get identifying the code right? I'd stay away from those places. A simple google search of that code will tell you everything you need to know. And this forum, of course. : )

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I remember correctly P01440 is a EVAP system leak. Check your gas cap before doing anything, especially if you've gotten gas lately. Loose or worn caps will throw that code and normally 2/3 of the customers I get that get that code, had just gotten fuel. Haha.
Hey now, I work at one of those places. I take personal offense to that.

and I'm sure your competent in using a scanner. I've got some places around here that just throw parts at it until it is fixed without doing any real diagnostic work. : )
