What does the chip replace?
Getting a "performance" chip replaces what? The eprom? Anyone know where I can get the stock one?
This guy I am buying a maro from doesn't know exactly what was done to the car. He said it didn't pass emissions (he tried once then moved a couple counties south so didnt have to get it tested anymore). He says he 'thinks' it has cats (I will be looking tomorrow night) but it also has a chip which I imagine could cause it to run rather rich.
Any info you guys can give me would be great. He doesn't have the failed Echeck papers from 3 years ago. I am just theorizing -- checking the cats will tell me more. In my experience a generic performance chip on a gasser doesn't do a whole hell of a lot. Thanks a bunch! (there is a pic of the car here

EDIT** Also a little about the car (what I know at least) : Headers, at least a cat back, intake and something involving MSD (don't know what exactly, have been looking at stock maros so I know what is out of place on this one) in addition to the chip. Don't know brands, I would like to but he doesn't have a clue and he is a "take it to the mechanic" type guy which means he hasn't touched the car much. It's a 94 z28 m6

take some pictures of the msd part and motor so we can see. best to use a tuner like solomon LT1 PCM Tuning - OBDI/OBDII PCM Tuning/Programming Service or pcmforless PCMforless.com .
