i put it on the scanner i got and its showing no codes. the scanner i got is just one from harbor freight so im not sure how reliable it is. i bought the crank sensor today and if its not raining when my dad gets off work we will put it on there.

I have a few OBD2 scanners and 1 is from harbor freight and it does do live data. It can even be used a data logger. And it was one of the cheaper $150 ones.

Hope that cures your problems! If for some reason it does not; it may be worth while to let a shop diagnose it and then you can make the repairs depending on the root cause. It may make more sense then just throwing parts at it. I don't think a shop will charge you a whole lot to figure out what is specifically failing as long as the problem can be duplicated on command which sounds like it can be.

Hang in there! I just picked up a 96 Z28 and no sooner do I get one problem fixed she throws another code for something else unrelated and of course she was rocking the rejected sticker and my 14 days are up! I knew what I was getting myself into but just funny that they are not present together but 1 after another. I am making up for years of abuse/lack of repairs. Treat her well!

I am sure everyone would like to know how it turns out so please report back.

crank sensor will sometimes not throw a code when failing. can cause a no start. also test your temp sensor, can on a rare ocation cause a no start.

is it hard to change the crank sensor on these cars? it looks like i have to take the belt off and the bottom pulley off to get to it. Is there an easier way or is that how you do it?

I have never personally done it on your make/model but from what I have seen it seems like that is the only way to do it. The crank bolt is usually a PITA to break it loose and your defiantly going to need a puller for the balancer. This just a guess but you will probably will need a harmonic balance puller. Most people will use a 3 jaw puller if they already have one.

well i believe i fixed it now. i jacked the car up and went to unplug the wires going to the crank sensor and noticed the came off really easy so i pushed it back in and made sure it was connected good. i just drove it about 6 or 7 miles and it seems fine.
