Vats and flashing security light!

Default Vats and flashing security light!

Have the awesomely awesome flashing security light and a few questions. I've cleaned the cylinder and key well with electrical cleaner hoping things in the cylinder were just dirty, no luck.

I know of the resistor method but am not sure if I want to totally rid myself of the theft system. A new VATS module runs about $60 and may be worth saving the system. But, what I can't find is a pic or location of where this dang module actually is?

What are some of your opinions? Should I just solder in a resistor and say to hell with it or go about placing a new module? Not sure of the time and effort it would take in that but I could find out. Thanks.

u are a secound gear member so it looks like u have this car for years
so u better if u wana keep it with u keep it all original.
if u wana do the bypass u can do it easy way with any value of risitor not exactly the one in ur key...............

Im starting to believe there is more to this than a security issue. I've also been having a problem with my wipers being spurratic. They are switched to "off" but they are still going, speed settings work correctly but they just wont shut off. When I turn the key ON I can hear a groaning like sound as if there is a short somewhere. This could be linked to the security light.

Where at in the column do these lines meet? I still haven't taken a look yet just gathering basic info. I didn't think the wiring to the vats got involved with the rest of the wiring coming from the column at all, so how could they be effecting each other?

The noise and wiper problem started the day before the security light and no start. Yet, yesterday the wipers were normal with the security light still on. Today, they are back to being crazy.

Got under the column and checked some wiring. I unplugged the connector which goes from the cylinder to the module. Hooked up meter up to the end which runs up the column to the key cylinder. I am suppose to get the same reading from when I checked my key, as to when I plug the key into the ignition cylinder.

Reading off my key was 883 from one side, rotate the leads and get 884. Thought one was suppose to be a lot higher? When I plug the key into the cylinder I don't get a reading at all. So assuming my ignition cylinder is bad? What about the readings on the key?

wire from cylinder to the connector at base of columm is known to fail. have also seen a few cylinders fail on here

Yea, just wanted to make sure before I start to tear into the column and replace the cylinder. I really don't want to do it all but I think it's more beneficial than soldering in a resistor.

could have a tune done and have vats taken out at the same time.

Oh, it will be out soon enough. Just temporary solution for now.

The groaning sound is coming from my wiper motor, damn thing has been in only a few months and is already starting to foul out!!!!!
