Unless the previous owner did a interior swap to get a 98+ dash.

no this isnt some weird cob job. Your car came from the factory with an ls1 style interior. GM changed the interiors to the newer design in 97.thought almost every year of camaro from 93-97 has something different about it and for 97 it was the up dated interior. I dont know why gm does it but its not uncommon for them to do it when they up date a car. Probably just has to do with doing the tooling in the factories takes time and its easier to make it a two step process and do the interiors first.
