upgrade 2002 base
Hi,
there are a few 98-02 SS Camaros being parted out in my area, and it seems like there are regularly. Besides the wheels and tires, what else would be a compatible upgrade for my base Camaro. Thanks! |
Struts and sway bars. You could send the Struts out to be rebuilt. They may even have a life time warranty. The rear would be a posi. You want to be sure it has the same traction control connectors. if the rear came from a 6 speed car it would also have better gears. The V8 would have a tighter Rack and pinion.
Edit: the SS should have a aluminum drive shaft. You driveshaft has a center bearing and weighs like 40lbs. The aluminum one weighs like 5lbs. |
Excellent, thanks!

the seats. Am I the only one here who has learned the hard way just how expensive are the interior pieces which are in good shape?

Ashtray cover $30 factory floor mats $75 dash emblem $10 speaker cover $15 spare tire cover screws $15ea. Fortunately, those items were missing, and the rest of my interior is pristine. I am lucky, I live in the car capital of America, so there are always plenty of parts! Take care! |
Also,
I just saw some SLP models parting out as well, anything additional from those? Thanks! |
All SS's are SLP. SLP makes the SS.
I didn't mention hoods or rear decks, they tend to sell fast and not for cheap. Hoods can go for up to a $1000 I think the rear decks are $400-500 |

The one piece aluminum driveshaft will also improve torque at the rear wheels.
Your not serious, Are you? |
An aluminum driveshaft wouldn't be a "performance" upgrade at all, for his 2002 at least. The V6 models got a one-piece (steel) driveshaft around the 1999-2000 model year, no more two-piece. I had put an aluminum shaft on my old 96, and weighed both at the time. Steel one piece driveshaft: 16 lbs. Aluminum shaft: 12 lbs. 4 lbs. saved on a street car isn't worth the extra expense over a relatively inexpensive steel driveshaft.
