you need heat to melt the glue that holds them in. its a GM thing. so bust out the oxy-acetylene torch, heat em up, after you see the glue run out like a freshly poped zit, set the u joint ends on a vise (dont clamp anything down, you using it as a cradle) and tap the driveshaft with a hammer- warning- do not hit the round shaft. you'll dent it and throw it out of balance or bend it. hit the weld that couples the shaft and u joint mount because that is the strongest part.
then, install new u joints. aftermarket ones are typically held in by circlips

I used a socket larger than the cap on the U joint on one side, a socket the same size a the U joint cap on the other and a large C clamp, heated and twisted the C clamp to push the u joint down into the bigger socket. Had to have a couple more hands to help hold everything.
