Transmission Lock

Exclamation Transmission Lock

Hello guys,

i need a small help i just bought a 97 camaro Z28 but the thing is the battery is dead and i think the starter as well i need to move it but the problem is the trans is positioned on "P" is there anyway like to release the lock without starting the car so i can put it in neutral

will appreciate any kind of help thanks!

Just turn the key to the on position and you should be a able to shift

i tried that it doesnt work the key wont turn to the on position because of the "battery" am guessing .. is there any other way?? and thanks for ur reply

I am not an expert because all my 4th gens are stick but I think there is a safty switch the brake petal throws that unlocks a solenoid in the shifter. You going to have to get power to it or tear the console apart and remove the blocking plate.

The battery shouldn't have anything to do with the key. If it isn't turning it may be an ignition problem

yes you need to push on the brakes to get the car out of park. i am thinking its not electric but linkage or hydraulic off the brakes on my 93. may be different on the 97. if you can get under the car you can unhook the cable from the linkage and pull it out of park. is the car on a hill or incline?

nope car is on straight land any pic of the saftey switch or how to get to it??

So White, even though you never said one way or another, I assume you did try stepping on the brake pedal?
