Default Tranny Swap Questions

Hey, I'm gonna swap my tranny for a new 4L60E. I'm just wondering if there's any stipulations, like if it matters what year car the transmission comes out of, or what kind of car. I have a '95 Z28. Would it matter if I put in a tranny from an... I don't know... '99 Chevy S10?

Essentially, what kind of 4L60E do I need for my car?

Thanks, guys.

What's the reason for the swap?

your going to need one with the same plugins. most the 95s are obd1 which has a bit different way of interacting than the obd2 systems (96-02). you can get most any 4l60e to work by switching the plugins on the trany. a good trany shop can do it. if your wanting to do the switch yourself it would be best to find a 4l60e from a 95 camaro. do you have funds to have your trany done at a place like performabuilt 4l60e 700r4 4l80e performance gm transmission performabuilt

Well, I was gonna have my mechanic do it. He said he was gonna get one from a transmission shop that was out of a wrecked car with low mileage.

It's an auto, btw.

trany shop should know which one will work or set one up that will.

Hey, Craby. My car won't shift at WOT. That's just part of the bad tranny, right? Should my new one alleviate that problem?

It won't upshift at WOT in all gears it seems - I have to let off. Before my tranny started slipping, it shifted fine at any other throttle, but when I have it floored it won't upshift.

could be vehicle speed sensor or throttle position sensor. also changing rearend gear ratios or making a mistake on a computer tune or computer failing. im sure there are a few internal transmission problems that can cause the issue.
