I have only had the car for about 4 days so as far as i know this is the first time it did it. i have not put it in park while i have had it. it rolled back about a foot and then i put my foot on the break. then i shifted down into drive and put it back in park and it was ok.

ya it sounds like either the pin has worn down some or broke or is malfunctioning the pin is about the size around as a pencil and like an inch long and thats all that holds your car in place in park if i were you id just use the hand brake unless its causing some other damage but i think youll be ok

Where have you been putting the shifter when you park the car then? And if not in park, how were you able to turn the ignition switch all the way off and get the key out?

Sounds like your shifter linkage needs servicing -- had a similar issue back on my '95 3.4L.

yup shift linkage not to bad of a fix prob cost about 40$ or so

and camaro69 he meant while the car was moving on my cousins old car the button was broken and you could shift at anytime with out pressing it and his son accidentally kicked it into park while he was going about 65 and he said the loudest noise came from the trans and the car never moved again
