tps sensor problems. code 22

93 z28 camaro LT1, 5.7L automatic;transplanted in a jeep wrangler!!! Check engine light is on, I'm getting a code 22 - low signal voltage to tps. The engine seems to idle fine, but on accelerating passes the normal first "shift point" and the rpm's race to redline. With steady throttle, eventually will smooth out. I have learned that quickly easing off the pedal at the point where the transmission should shift (just as if driving a stick) it will accelerate more smoothly. The TPS sensor is new, (2nd new one that didn't work) which leads me to believe the problem is in the wiring. My voltmeter gets the refence 5V signal at the tps plug, ground wire seems ok, but the sensor signal is at about 0.03V, I think it should be around 0.5 volts. Tried jumper wire directly from tps plug to ECM, no change. Could it be a sticking throttle valve, short to ground, bad connection at ECM pin? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

what trans are you using ?

same from the 93 z28, pretty sure its a 700r4

well it should be a 4l60 or 4l60e if it was from a latter year, it sounds more a transmissiom problem to me especially with it redlining, but i say use a throttle body cleaner or carb cleaner cause maybe the valves are sticking

I just checked, definitely 700R4 tranny. I hadn't thought about the transmission. Do you know why would that cause a tps signal problem? I can clear the code, but as soon as i fire it up (in park) the check engine light comes back on. I just dumped half a can of sea foam trough the throttle body, so don't think its dirty...

RE: tps sensor problems. code 22

The 93 came with a 700R4 transmission.
This may help out:
DTC 22 is set when the sensor signal voltage (Dark Blue Wire)is less than 0.23 volt
An open or shorted to ground of the Gray wire or the Dark Blue wire will set the code
With ignition ON or engine idling, the sensor voltage should be between 0.3 and 0.9 volt

When DTC 22 is set the TCC will not apply, The transmission line pressure will be high, and shifts harsh. The shift points will be fixed, and no 4th gear in hot mode

If you can get a known good TPS and try it, then you know the problem is elsewhere -- but you said this is your 2nd already -- they could both be bad, unlikely but possible. I had to replace a faulty TPS in my '01 SS...
