Torque Converter
Quick questions,1 is it normal for my motor to have a slight drop in rpm (Normally like 50 or so) and vibrate a little more then normal when sitting in gear at a red. 97 3.8 stock with 4l60e, 2is it my TC going? 3Or my TC Solenoid thing? 4 if its the solenoid isnt there a straight wire option where you can wire a switch for on and off?

does the car try to go when it does this? how is it running at idle in gear, what are the rpms at idle in gear? is it throwing any codes? could be a sticky egr or idle air control.

If i let off the gas the car creeps forwards, and it runs fine at id like to say 700-800 or so rpm its the normal idle, just down about fifty. See i put it in neutral and when i with my foot on the brake put it in D it goes after about a second, its like the TC catches fully then lets off, i just can feel the car doesn't want to stop, it wants to move forward. And yes, i also meant to ask, is there a limp mode when a code is thrown?

my honda does the exact same thing... at a stopped idle it vibrates a lil more than normal.. its probably a idle air control dirt & debris.. torque converter has nothing to do with it because it did it when my honda was an automatic and manual (yes my honda was auto, then manula. no auto again). as a matter of fact it did it worse when it had the flywheel on the crankshaft

if its creeping on you at those rpms then it may very well be the coverter. but yah see if you can get a good scanner on it. see what happens.
there are certain things that will set some of the systems into limp mode im not sure the trany does, engine control does, abs does, i just dont know about the trans control for the 4l60e.

they are separate systems so the brake or trany system would not effect the fuel system directly. i know a bad knock sensor, iat sensor, coolant temp sensor, map, and the maf can set it into limp mode. if the converter is not locking up it would effect you mpg and if the valve body is not working correctly and is getting stuck between gears it can also effect mpg. if you think its in the trany it may be a good idea to stop by a trany shop and run some questions by them.
