Default top speed linear?

ok so at 65 mph my car runs right at 1500 rpm's. so mathematically at 6000 rpm's, would the top speed actually be 260 mph? i know the car doesn't have the power to get there, but mathematically wouldnt this be correct?

Yes, that is correct.
You can double-check your homework here: http://www.thirdgen.org/calculations

okay and also another question. my friend has a 93 z28 auto with 3.73 gears. his car runs at 2k rpm's at 60 in OD, and my car runs at 2k rpm's at 60 in 5th. so are they also linear? does this mean that i pretty much have one more whole gear than him?

This is kind of off topic but i am sure you know that a LS1 4ft gen can max out around 165 MPH stock.

Well, let's try and do some simple math, shall we?
Your friend has a 4 speed automatic and you have a T5, 5 speed manual?
Do you have an extra gear?

no i do have a 6 speed. i know this is all kind of random. but im pretty much just curious. i just turned 16 and im really starting to get into cars, so im trying to learn as much as possible. 2000 rpms in 5th at 60, 1400 rpms in 6th at 60/ 1500 rpms at 65.

Oh, why didn't you say so?
OK then, your 6th gear is even more of an overdrive than the 4th gear in the automatic is. So yes, you have an extra gear (ratio) over and above the automatic. I think that's what you're asking.

that would mean the auto is lower in 1st? isnt the final drive ratio the same or is the ls1 a higher geard od? i think i had 342 s in my last 93 z and it turned 22 at 60 it was supposed to have 323s. the one i have now has the same option #s gu5 but is at 18 going 60. i checked it and its 323. im thinkin maybe there are two different geared auto tranys.

4L60E automatic trans gears: 1st-3.06, 2nd-1.62, 3rd-1.00, 4th-.70 (overdrive)
T-56 manual 6 speed (called a double overdrive): 1st-2.66, 2nd-1.78, 3rd-1.30, 4th-1.00, 5th-.74 (overdrive), 6th-.50 (2nd overdrive)
As you can see, the overdrive 4th gear in the automatic is almost the same as 5th gear in the manual. 6th gear is another overdrive...good if you drive on nothing but wide open flatlands.
