Top end question on a lt1
Iv almost gotten everything on my top end of my engine dissasembled and now im looking into cams and a valve train. I was looking at the LT4 hot cam and valve train set and had a few questions about it. First one is what does the term "hot cam" mean? also how do you guys feel about the lt4 cam? I plan onkeeping my bottom end stock so if you guys think there would be a better choice in a cam package let me know. Links are much appreciated
here is a link to what i a looking at:

What do you guys think of these? Would i need anything else other then what iv posted here? and what exactly would this kit do to my car, would it lower mpg and increase the rpm idle?
what do you want the car to do? the hotcam add some horses yes, but there are much better choices to go with. the hotcam is a pretty tame cam and won't hurt mpg by much. its an inexpensive kit that but again, spend a few more bucks and can get a lot more horses
I want to keep it a daily driver but I am aiming for more horse power. I dont want to go over board (yet). My end game aim for this car is around 450 HP. My main question is if i buy this lt4 kit when i get my heads machined will i have to machine them to a certain spec for it and what about the timing chain?Tuning?Basically I just want to know what all i will need along with a new cam and valvetrain.
Looking at some of the lt4 things i was wondering if when i get my heads remachined could i also get my intake manifold machined as well to match the lt4 specs? basically getting a lt4 kit for a much lower cost.
If you want that power, I suggest you get a heads and cam package. You say you don't want to do the heads yet, but you have your top end disassembled. Unless "Iv almost gotten everything on my top end of my engine dissasembled" doesn't mean the heads are off. If your on a budget and don't want to doheads now, a cam will still do good with stock heads (depending on the cam). Ported heads will give you more power with that set up, but a heads/cam package will yield better results.
Just for comparison, look at my sig. I put a small 212/218 cam in my LT1 and made that power with stock heads. I have seen someone on here with the LT4 hotcamthat madeless power, but he didn't have all the supporting mods I do so...? Point is, get something your not gonna regret and will work fine when you do "...want to go over board..."

I reread over what i posted to make sure i didnt say i dont want to do something with the heads. I actually planning on doing something with them, I was asking if i can port them out to match the lt4 and if i ould need to do anything with the intake manifold as well?
I have atwo more question before i log tonight (hoping it gets a answer by the morning so i can start buying things
). Is this kit compatible with my car?http://store.summitracing.com/partde...p;autoview=sku
and can i port out and machine the stock heads on my car to match the lt4 specs? if so could anyone give me a in the ball park price? I found the specs for both if it helps find a answer:
Combustion chamber Valves Intake Port Flow
LT1 54cc 1.94/1.50 170cc 212 CFM
LT4 54.4 2.00/1.55195cc 240 CFM
Im also wonderig if anyone could tell me what my new idle would be set to with this cam?
listen to me...go to www.eportworks.com or www.advancedinduction.com. you will make crazy more horsepower going with one of their heads/cam combos than a hotcam. i'm not saying you won't be faster with a hotcam than stock, but if you're going to go through all the work, why not just do it once and call it a day?
