4 years ago I sold my 96 Z28 convert. with 80k miles, and was doing good to get $8500 for it (it was this time of year too which didn't help). Oh yeah, mine had ice cold a/c too!!

Yeah the price is definitely too much. An LT1 Camaro with that many miles is only worth about $6,500 here in Phoenix.

it also says OBO

print out the ad and make sure it has the date.

Then, in 4 weeks, look for the ad again but also call the guy.

Everyone believes their vehicles are worth xxxx. Heck, on Craigslist I see the word FIRM or statements such as "if you are going to lowball me, don't bother calling"

It's folks like that who need a cold hard slap of reality and there's nothing like sitting on the car for a month, unsold, with what they consider to be low offers, to change their tune.

Heck, 18 months ago I walked up to a kid who was selling his 383 95 Z28 and asking $6,000. I offered a check right there for $4400. When i saw him a few months later he told me that he wished he took my offer because he needed the money and ended up selling for $4k.

Yes, there are tire kickers out there and kids who just want to "test drive" cars. But when someone with the means, who doesn't need to "raise the money" makes an offer, it should be considered. It's not worth sitting on a vehicle for a month or 2 trying to get a few hundred dollars more.

go make an offer

Have you ever sold a car on craigslist before? I have more than once, and you Do get a number of idiots who either call or email offering (sight unseen) half of what you're asking, and it doesn't matter how much or little you're asking. Past selling experience is what prompts the "don't lowball me" comments in the craigslist ads. I just ignore those offers completely because I know they aren't real buyers. Some of those email offers are even being used to phish for your email address when you respond back, so they can put you on a spam list.
In the Chicago area, here's a 95 Z28 with 45k miles, for $8,000k: http://chicago.craigslist.org/nch/cto/2010260665.html
or a 93 with 83k miles for $2,995: http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/ctd/2010104385.html
or a 2000 with 75k miles for $7,500: http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/cto/2009176729.html
And the list goes on....

Funny I see this ad today after browsing CL last night to see what was out there. One dealer near me wants 9950 for a 2002 L36 no T no leather A4. It has 82K ish on the meter. WHAT!!! are you smoking something not leagal in most countries? Another ad wants $1500 firm for a dead engine 2001 L36 and his pictures show an SS from a Camaro Wallpaper site, a European Camaro and some random camaro off a car lot. There are a TON of converts for sale right now in my area (Seattle Tacoma, WA) and even the SS Convert that is on a dealer lot with less than 100K on the meter is less than 9K. Keep looking around you can get a 1998-2002 Z for about 5-7K in really nice shape.

Another thing to look out for when selling on CL is the Brokers that want to sell your car for you. They will tell you they have someone lined up to buy your car but when you call them on that (tell them to hook you up then you will give them some commission) they bail on you and say you need to pay for our program first. They NEVER have anyone lined up, they dont do anything you cant do for free, and they charge you $$$ to get started and take $$$$ in commission when your car sells wether you sell it or they do. BEWARE!!

Purchased and sold; yes

my favorite are the ads that when you reply, the car is suddenly 1,000 miles away and they say they will use Paypal and you get to inspect the car upon delivery and if you don't like it, you keep your money. I wonder if anyone really falls for that.

As for selling, I price them so they are very attractively priced and I get emails stating "I'll buy it" and "will you take xxx". I sell it to the first person with cash in hand. One time I had 3 people all converging upon me at the same time and the first person with cash got it.

"don't bother lowballing me" comments, IMHO, displays the person as either ignorant or obstinate. (ignorant doesn't mean stupid)

I won't even contact those sellers and I'm a no nonsense buyer. if i deem the vehicle or item to have value, I start pulling out hundred dollar bills until we agree upon a price or I leave without the item.

A fair deal is when both buyer and seller think they left money on the table.
