Default Thrush welded or glasspack?

I have a '97 3.8 and i want to put an aftermarket exhaust on but i don't know what to do. I have been told to either put a Thrush welded muffler or a glasspack on but i don't know which would be better. Im looking to spend about 50-60 dollars on it. Also someone told me putting a different exhaust could harm the motor.

dont get a glasspack. im not sure how it would sound with your v6, but on my Z, when i got my headers and hi flows into true dual, i used glasspacks for my mufflers bc im cheap. it sounded real good but after a month or so, the insides of the glasspacks fell apart and it sounded horrible after that. they will make it louder for sure, but the quality isnt the best

Glasspacks are junk. Thrush Welded will sound ok but with the V6 it will be raspy. For the best sound I have heard from a 3.8L in these cars is by using the Z28 stock muffler and duals out. This is what SLP did to the 01-02 RS cars. it does not sound too raspy but gives a decient tone.

Just for the record, if you install glass packs the wrong way (exhaust blowing into the louvers), they will burn out/deteriorate fast. It may sound backwards, but you want the exhaust to flow over the louvers, not into them. I've used glasspacks before, and they've lasted. They're more of a resonator than a muffler.

Massey said it. The only decent to good sounding v6 cars are the ones that have a z28 catback on them.

Since you said it, I started to think about it. I originally had just glasspacks installed when I got my car for a good sound and they lasted. When I got my full exhaust, I think they were installed backwards. Thats why they wore out fast when I had my full exhaust. Hmm I didnt even think of that. Oh well, I love how it sounds with true dual headers and hi flows anyway

Yeah, I 3rd with Massey and Maven. The Z28 muffler does sound good on the 3.8L, especially for a V6.

My ranger with its 4.0 v6 has a Thrush welded muffler and it sounds damn good for a V6.

OK, thanks. How much would it cost to get the dual exhaust from a Z, would i just have to find someone selling it?

You could either find someone selling it or go to a dealer and see if they can order one. If you get one from a dealer, be ready to pay a pretty penny bc they will charge you out the butt for one. Google it, check ebay, check craigslist, etc.
