So check this out. I was checking out a used gauge cluster from a parted out camaro locally because one of my camaros has a faulty one. I found the odometer electrical connector had two of the wires disconnected. Im guessing its pretty rare for this piece to break given how it is protected and usually left alone in the dash. Do you think this was tampered with to hide the mileage? I didnt end up buying it because of it. The guy also seemed pretty darn sketchy too so I politely declined.

Also, do any of yall know if the mileage is saved in the cluster itself or in the ECM? If I get a used cluster from another car will it read the mileage from that car and not the actual mileage on my car?

 

hard to say ,unless it was hooked up,going with your gut may have been a good thing

 

mileage is kept in the cluster. at the least, document the change.
