t56 transmission

hey guys i was just wondering if anyone knows about the t56 transmissions if there good or bad also if theres known problems and things i should watch out for

94-02 are pretty good boxs for stock or under 400hp cars but like any manual tranny a bad driver can screw them up.

We just had a post about a guy with a failed clutch that was trying to force the car in gear with the motor running. He said the car start to move forward, not a tranny I would want :).

Most common issue is Syncro, now if you want for real racing that is going to take some pricey mods.

They are real solid transmissions and will handle a good bit of abuse stock. Usually the first thing to cause issue is the master cylinder, most replace it with a tick adjustable

Well as of now motor and transfer have about 83xxx on them.. im not trying to make a full blown drag car just a nice daily driver with a decent amount of power right now I just have alot of bolt ons the only internal upgrade I have is a bigger cam.. the transmission is the borgwarner model so stock one that came in these cars with a stage 3 clutch b&m ripper shifter and for a rear end its the both Warner position with 4:10 gears..... so im not sure if I should have any problems besides the obvious I've been driving a standard for years now so im not worried about the clutch just power wise I don't want to break anything

a well maintained t56 is basically bullet proof there great transmissions but like said above only up to around 400hp

I'm not sure where the 400hp figure is coming from. Pretty much and cam ls1 is going to be over 400hp, and most that do have h/c don't have a built t56, just clutch and master cylinder if anything. OP, dont worry about the trans, if anything worry about that 10 bolt.

putting a cam in an ls1 isnt going to give you 400hp maybe 340-350

350 rwhp can be hit with boltons, a decent cam on a ls6 intake ls1 can hit 400 bhp. 400whp can be acheived with a mild cam and heads no problem, and the trans will hold fine.

The T56 can be bullet proof....as long as your bullets aren't more than 450 ft/lbs of torque, that's what the trans is rated at.
