T-Top Water Leak Fix
#11
Yup, that's for brand new. Don't remember the site, it's bookmarked somewhere. I never thought about the brackets possibly causing the problem. It's suppose to get a little warmer at the end of next week, maybe I'll take a look at adjusting them then. It's too damn cold out for me now. I don't particularly like working in 40-50 degree weather.

massey and interested persons, so you can find a little easier when needed, i have copied the 1st post in this thread to the how to and fax sticky thread in this (4th gen) section.

322, it is hard to say where yours is leaking. My Tops where leaking due to the foam beaking down and letting water pass by, I did not have any water where you are showing. I have done this job now to 3 cars, 2 of which were mine and only had once where it did not work and I had to re do it. Ironicly it was the side of Sarah I used to make the How to with, I didnt get enough sealer in a critical spot under the seal in the corner.

Thanks for the feedback Massey. This has been an ongoing 12 year saga. I am the original owner of the car and it leaked from day 1. I had the dealer try to fix it 5 times under warranty and they failed each time. Finally I managed to seal it up with some silicone sealant. That kept me leak free until a couple years ago, and I'm just now getting around to tackling it. I have been using a rolled up piece of fabric in the channel to absorb the water, but that is ghetto and it drives me crazy.
The foam area was dry when I peeled it off, so it wasn't leaking there. The butyl tape also seemed to keep water out of that area, but it's that little spot at the end of the channel where the water seems to be getting under the seal, then around the corner at the end of the lip. It probably doesn't help that I have to park it downhill, as that lets the water get more under the weather strip.
I have it taken off again and will try to seal it up again. Think I need to focus more on the bottom edge of the weather strip where it sits on the metal channel - if I can get that sealed up hopefully I'll be good.
