Suspension and lowering problems '95/'98
I have a 95 camaro. i took out the whole drivetrain(v6, auto tranny, and rearend) and swapped it out with the drivetrain from a 98 z28 w/ a 6-speed. The right rear wheel(17s) was rubbing the outside of the wheel well, when i hit bumps, so i installed Eibach's sportline springs and monroe struts and shocks and the tires are still rubbing when i give it gas. The springs were said to be able to fit 18s without rubbing so i dont know why my 17s are rubbing and it's mostly on the right rear side. Is there anything else that could cause this?

bingo.. when your rear suspension compresses under acceleration, the panhard bar is what keeps the rear axle centered. if its bent, it will be 'keeping it not centered' and therefore rubbing up on your fenders.

yep like mello says the rearend is outa center. should be rubbing on one side only. have you tried straightening it? would be best to pick up an adjustable panhard bar. hay mello go to see your around.

On these cars the back right squats the most on takeoff, the panhard bar should be moving the rear end to the left on take off, a little. I would check your backspacing on your wheels, I'm going to bet that even with a correct panhard bar centering the rear end you will still rub.

If those springs lowered the vehicle any then you will need an adjustable one, just a single adjustable one will work. As far as your backspacing goes, you do understand what that is right? I just want to make sure as I had no clue until I was in the exact same thing you are in now, except I was lowered and rubbing both back tires on the fenders on ever little dip in the road.

Look this over and let me know if you have any questions. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that with a 9.5 wide rim you need at least a positive 1.5 or 2" backspacing. I don't know what size rim you're running but common sizes are 17 X 9.5? I was running a wheel with a +1 backspacing and it was just bearly rubbing the outside edge of the tire.

yeah, i knew the backspacing was bad on the wheels that i had on there because they stuck out too far. So i changed out the wheels to the stock 16's and now instead of the tires rubbing it is hitting the axel. I installed an adjustable panhard bar and the stock one wasn't bent, it is the panhard brace bar that is bent(the one above it), only slightly bent though. So, after eibach springs, monroe shocks, and an adj. panhard bar it is still bottoming out....bad, on both sides. Is there anything else i could check?
