Stripping paint off of bumpers
#4
dont use 80 grit on the bare plastic or you will be fighting the fuzzies for the rest of your life. Get it down with 80 grit but try to finish stripping it with 180 on a DA or by hand. IF your paint is not damaged underneath you will not have to strip it down all the way to the plastic. It is best if you can leave a layer of the factory paint since it has an adheasion promoter that will help the paint stick. If your paint is spider cracked or chipping then it will have to be stripped to the base material.

Also that factory paint gets hard as a rock after so many years and makes a great base, standing down a pre1970ish car to the bare metal is more work than its even worth because of this, I seriously used a chisel with a piece of paper of the end and it came out pretty decent, I wish I had some pictures of the paint before, parts of it were prestige and other parts seriously looked like this African dried river beds you see on discovery channel
