OK I'll look into that. I'm having a hard time finding a socket to take these screws out of the opti. Its a torx screw but its a male end. Even my 4mm socket is too big and it wont even go in the hole for 2 of them. Im kinda stumped here

Well, I got the opti took apart. Not what i was expecting. The only problem i saw was the posts for 5 of the spark plugs where the rotor meets was pretty corroded. Part of the plastic at the front of them was burnt. I cleaned everything up real good and put it back in the car. It started instantly with no code 36!........I let it warm up and put some water in it for now, pull out on the road and it starts missing. I turn around, put it in 1st and stomp it and it runs like crap! Almost dying several times. Just cruising it does ok. I put it in 2nd and stomp it and it starts missing horrible and the SES comes on. I say what the hell and stomp it again and it runs like nothings wrong all the way to 5000rpms. I get home and check the code and its 36 again. I crank the car up and it idles fine until you get over about 2500rpms and it spits and sputters like crazy! What do I need to do next? The opti is 2 months old from Jegs and the people that bought it are suppose to mail me the receipt. Any suggestions or ideas????

When you had the optispark out, did you look to see if there was any crud on the optical reader? Was there any oil, or water/moisture inside the opti, or was it bone dry?

From what i could tell the reader looked ok. I thought there was some oil on it where the peices of the reader were put together but nothing wiped off so i guess it was something from the factory. I took it out and wiped it off but the only oil i found was just a tiny bit where the screws are that hold the reader in place. The wheel was very clean. Everything else was dry.

the seal for the water pump shaft is a pita. i went though three of them to get it right. best to find a plastic seal install tool. its a cone that goes on the end of the shaft so the seal goes in right. the seal has two seal surfaces an inner and an outer. the inner one likes to invert and tear and/or get under the outer one. u will see when u get one. the other bad part is u have to buy the whole cover set to get the one seal. like camaro69 said the opti is probly bad. i bet its a rebuilt jegs unit. get a gm performance or a msd.

Well, I'm having to drive my car regardless but I got a new code and not sure what it means. It actually runs ok when the SES is on but today after work i started it up and no SES light. I'm sitting at a red light and the car dies, crank it and it dies again. Crank it again and keep a little gas going to it and it sputters a couple times and the SES comes on so I check it when I get home and I still have the 36 code but now I've also got code 16. I can't seem to find a good description of it. Anyone know what that one means?

Just got home and checked the voltage, it was 16 running and 14.5 after i turned it off. I know thats not right! According to the gauge it should be a little low with the car not running. Could this be causing my other problems???
