Stock Radio won't turn on but clock works??
OK, this just started happening. When i turn on the car no radio, no display, but the clock still works....It is not locked either. I can even hear the cd player making noises when I first turn it on but no radio no sound, won't take a cd, like there is no power, but the clock works. I'm stumped and am wondering if this is a common issue or if it's time to replace it. BTW this is in a 97 V6 coupe.

Check your radio fuse. I think those radio's have 2 sources of power to operate. One is a constant hot and the other is only on when the key switch is turned on. One fuse is the radio and the other is the same fuse that causes the door chimes and inside lights to work when the door is opened. I think the constant hot is the memory for the clock and radio presets. You might also want to pull the radio and check the wiring connector in the back to make sure it has not worked loose. Pop off the bezel around the radio and 4 screws hold the radio in the dash. takes 5 minutes on a 97.

doesnt the body control module do stuff like this when the connection goes bad. theres a sticky on here for a mod and some problems assoiated with the bcm failure. just looked and it doesnt seem like its the same as your issue, have a look if you like.

Yea I would check the BCM. Do you have power windows? and do they still work? If not it is defidently the BCM.

The windows work fine and I haven't had any other problems besides the radio not turning on. If i have time today I am going to pull it and see what I can find.

Check your fuses first... Its amazing (I work in auto parts) how many customers chase problems and blame our parts when all they needed to do was change a fuse.

simple fix, buy an after market stereo trust me, youll enjoy playing MP3 that hold over 100 songs, it even comes stock with a clock.

Yup, checked the fuse panel and sure enough the 15a fuse for the radio was burnt out. I have a sub in the trunk, sub/amp all in one type of thing, and I think it may have came loose while under the care of my wife and shorted out the fuse. Thanks for all the help though : ). |
Glad it was something simple like that. If you pop another one you may want to try to track down anything that may cause it to blow.
