yep sounds like a lose wire in the columm or the key is bad or the bcm may be failing.

Get it scanned, if the issue is reproducable, you will be able to get the code and better know the failure... Sounds like the mechanical ignition lock cylinder needs to be replaced and new keys cut.

Can the BCM be bypassed or eliminated?

I did the Vats key bypass.......you don't need a chipped key to start car anymore.

When the car won't start. you leave the key on for 7 minutes and then the car starts.

nope gotta have the bcm. found this

You can just ground the yellow with black wire at the starter relay and the starter will work normally without any problem from the VATS system. The yellow with black wire is the starter relay coil ground wire which goes to the BCM. The BCM decides whether to provide the ground based on the VATS system. Grounding the wire at the relay just eliminates the BCM from the circuit.

Wink

Wow, funny that so many are having this same issue at one time -- perhaps it's a heat related failure trigger? Or just use/age? I dunno... Ghosts in the machine. HAHA

Ah, the joys of having a 4th Gen... Legendary GM quality control.

my 95 z28 is doing the same thing. everything works but dont turn over, when it was running it didnt have any lights on, and now that it dont turn over the security light blinks when the key is turned on. i had replaced the lock cylinder and had 2 keys made from the dealer last year, both keys dont work.
