I'll jump in there with you Specter. Get a new battery. I've had this happen a few times, and everytime, it made a clicking sound...

 

If the alternator isn't charging the battery, and you keep getting dead batteries or lack of power, it could definitely be your alternator... Also ensure you have a good, taught belt and that your pulley tensioner is functioning right...

 

If you alternator is not working (battery discharging), you usually get a dummy light telling you so(looks like a battery). Also your car would eventually die after driving for so long.

 

Eventually die, yes, but it can be a bit intermittent, but inevitable. Been there, experienced that.

 

the fact that he said it drove fine after a jump, and that the problem persists after replacing alternator tells me it was not alternator. i ALWAYS start at the battery because, like it or not, they HAVE to fail after a certain amount of use. its just a part of the design, a lead acid battery will eventually corrode its electrodes from within and will not hold a charge.

 

Battery is only a few months old and this was the first time it happened. The second time I tried jumping it, it didn't want to start it took like 15min to get it to kick over. I'm going to try my buddy's battery tomorrow and see if that's the problem or I might take the battery back and get a new 1.

Liberty actually said something earlier I agree with.....check your connections. You have a lot of stuff going on that points to a few things. If you changes the batt and the alt and still have this problem your wires might be fried, or at the least loose in parts. Checking your connections is absolutely free and simple to do.

 

Not only that, but clean the terminals w/wire brush or spinning wire brush on a drill and be sure to add dielectric grease when you're done!
