Starting issues
Hey guys and gals, I'm new to the forums, but I need to ask you guys for help. Here is how the story goes: I purchased a 94 z28 6spd last week that has ran great! Last night my wife's car broke down about 2 hrs from home, so I pulled the battery off the Z to go get her car. The battery was off for about 4 hours. When I got home I installed the battery and tried to start the car. As you guys can guess the security light came on and now the starter will not turn over . I didn't have to use my battery on her car, it was the fuel pump, so my battery never lost charge. Can anyone help me out on this problem?

Double check to make sure your battery cables are clean and tight. Make sure your key is clean and dry. If you have another key, try it. I think it is just coincidence that it happened when you removed the battery. Check out this site for troubleshooting the security system.

thanks for the fast answer. The cables are fine, I checked them today. I don't have a 2nd key, but I have cleaned my key and it appears to be fine. The voltage on the battery is fine, all the lights are operating as normal. It acts as if there is a starter disable on it. The fuel pump is coming on and humming like always. I have racked my brain most of the day, and I can't come up with a solution. Anyone have any ideas? thanks

Thanks guys for the replies. yeah I have checked all fuses in the side of the dash and relays and fuses under the hood. And the clutch pedal on the floor at every attempt. Anyone have any more ideas? Come on we will eventually figure this out lol!

Is the security light on steady? If you have an ohm meter, try to ohm out the pellet in the key. If you do not, you can go to a chevy dealership and they can test the key. Could be just a bad key or possible lock cylinder that is bad. If you do need a key, take your proof of ownership for the vehicle or they will not make one for you.

See my edited post above. Also, if you are able to ohm out the key and get a reading, you can drop the lower kick panel bottom of the dash. The wiring from the cylinder is at the bottom of the steering column. If the key and cylinder are good, you should be able to ohm out the wiring connection there and get basically the same reading with the key in the cylinder.

I will be trying that in the morning . I would do it tonight but the rain has set in. Thanks for all the info osduck5, and everyone else that gave an idea of what it might be. however if anyone else can come up with anything, I will be more than glad to try that also if I haven't already. Thanks. Oh and buy the way, I have joined several other forums( this is my first Z28 forum however,) and I will say that y'all have been the nicest and most helpful group that I have joined. Especially to a new guy lol.
