stage 1, 2 question

Sometimes when browsing for performance parts, I'll come across the term "stage 1, 2, and 3". Obviously stage 2 is more aggressive than 1 and 3 is more than 2. What is the "stage" refering to? Thanks

Just a name used to differentiate similar things. As you mentioned, the higher the stage number the more aggressive whatever they are working with is.
