I am possibly buying a 2000 SS tomorrow. One of the few problems with the car is the chrome wheels are starting to bubble and flake a little. Any one ever had their wheels re-dipped? If so, how much does that normally cost?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I own a tire shop and I had a customer with the same people with the wheels and he was leaking air and was wondering what to do with them. Finally he came to my shop again 1 day with new OEM wheels and he got tires from me. I asked him what he was going to do with the old wheels and tires and he told me if I could take some money off the tires and I could keep the wheels. So I did. Long story short, I got a wire brush to the parts that were flaking and used some bead sealer on the wheels and I also replaced the valve stem with a metal 1 and it works just fine. Holds air and looks awesome. I'm going to put them on my Camaro once I get a paint job to it.

The Chroming process is all about prep. You can stick any pc of aluminum in a chome dip and it will come out shinney. Harley is real touchy about what the called their "A" surface chrome areas. I use to design the tools for the robot polishers and write the programs to polish the parts. The parts went thru 5 levels of polish they were then dipped in Copper then in Chrome. I can assure you this process looks way better then what GM puts out. But to pay a guy all those hours to reproduce all the CNC robot work by hand on a set of rims would cost more then GM gets for the rims.
