sooo...moving on to sound systems
Is there a "how to" on this forum? I have a Sony that is probably old in my car. I also have the Pioneer that came out of the wrecked car. Just changing them out did nothing. I dont want anything that shatters windows or anything but something not too expensive. The speakers dont sound all that great.

Best bet is to just replace it with a new head unit, instead of trying to reinstall the original one.
Pretty much any single din head unit will work, you just need to have the dash kit/adapter. Crutchfield.com is the place to go to if you are looking to do anything audio related and if you are apprehensive about it. Usually Crutchfield gives you the dash kit for free with purchase of a head unit.

I went with a JVC system. Be forewarned (probably common knowledge). The system had NO BASS at all. I need a subwoofer big time. I got a halfway decent head unit and speakers, but there is absolutely no bass to speak of unless I turn it way up and then it is distorted.

what do you mean it did nothing? if it dint turn on check fuses first if not then check the wiring. As long you have the wires red(ignition) yellow(constant) and black (ground) or antenna hooked up it should turn on. If still doesnt turn on press the and hold the source button it probably isnt set to to auto turn on.

You can look up online by your head unit make for what each wire does. Most of those wires are for your speakers though, remember there are two wires per speaker (positive/negative). Like the others said, yellow and red will more than likely be the ones you need for power.
You can also buy a a prewired adapter from Scosche for about $10, so all the guess work is removed for you.
SCOSCHE DIRECT CONNECT 88-UP GM KENWOOD 16 PIN HARNESS SMGM02KEN1603B
This is for a Kenwood, you would just need whatever brand your head unit is.
