should i trade my 2010 v6 for a 4th gen v8?
I had a lot of impulse this year, basically bougth a 2006 mustang gt, then traded it in for a 2010 camaro v6 and lost a lot of money, but now I'm really wanting a v8 and i always have liked the 4th gen body style the best, but the 2 i owned both gave me horrendous problems (they were v6 though)
would it be a bad idea to trade my 2010 v6 for a 2001 v8 i found for 8k?
basically, i paid 17k for my 2010, and this dealer wants 8k for his 2001 z28 with 75k milage, and he offered me 15k for my trade in...so i would lose about 2k, along with the 2k i lost when i traded in my mustang for the camaro.
so thats a pretty big hit i think for 1 year....shood i keep my v6 for a bit more and then try to see if a v8 camaro pops up that is closer and a better deal (this one is 3 hours away :S all the other ones in my area that i have seen are either all v6 camaro or in very bad shape.)

also i found a 98 camaro ss which they say has ls1 but is that true? these are the following mods done to it, would they give me crap mpg and reliability?
"1998 Chevy Camaro ss, Ls1 auto, quad bucket seats, leather power everything, t tops, 102,000 miles. Kenwood cd player. zo6 cams, headers, aftermarket exhaust, intake lid, 3,000 stall, tuned, ram air hood, throttle body bypass. Fast Fast Fast, ."
otherwise i am thinking of trading in for a T-top v6 which is only 3k$, just to get some money back and havea nice t-top camaro which i always wanted but the ones i had were lemosn i guess.

yes the 98 is a LS1, assuming the engine wasnt swapped out. but you dont want that car for a daily. It has a 3000 stall converter so you will get raped in fuel milage...not to mention that wears your engine out faster because its basically at high RPMS almost ALL the time....I'd keep the 2010 v6 for a little longer. The 2001 v8 seems like a good deal, but pictures and a full maintenance record would be nice.

98's have a list of problems that other 99-02 ls fbodys dont have, look them up. And a stall converter doesnt hurt fuel milage that bad. I daily drive a 3600 stall and it drives like normal on the highway. If you look around on ls1tech you could probably find a good deal on an ls1 car.

Have you driven the 2001 V8? I realize the LS1 has a lower torque curve and the car is a little lighter but is it really that much faster?
If you drive a car for a year and sell it for $2000 less then you paid for it you don't really lose money. Do you lose $10 to see a movie? No, it costs you $10 to see the movie. $2000 for a year on a newer car is pretty good. Think about buying a new car, Let say you buy a new SS for 40K. As you drive it off the lot it becomes a used car and is now worth 35K tops. It costs you 5K in a day, If you put 20,000 miles on it the first year it could cost you 8-10K in a single year. All cars depreciate older car depreciate slower but crossing over some mileage point can also trigger depreciation. One of the best know one is the 100,000 miles like, That will give you a huge drop.
I realize you can say there is no differences in losing $2000 and it costing you $2000 but I would disagree. If I lose $2000 it is because I screwed up, I damaged the car or ruined the interior, something unpredictable. Depreciation is predictable and you should have an idea how long you plan on keeping the car and some idea what the depreciation is going to be. Then if you change your mind you can kind of predicted how much extra the change will cost you.

What does a high stall converter do?
What kind of condition is this car in though? 15k on a trade in would give you some extra cash to make it more of whatever it is you want.

You'll get more for the 2010 if you sell it yourself to a private party instead of trading it in at a dealer. You'll also get a 4th gen cheaper if you buy it from a private party. I bought this '97 Z28 earlier this month for $5K from a private party and got a great deal. It has 88K miles on it and everything works. It was owned by a woman who had it serviced and maintained at a Chevy dealer for 16 years. Finding one in this shape with under 100K miles for $5K isn't easy but they're out there. Check out the video I made of it. Last week I had a local guy in his 70s do an old school pinstripe job on it-see pics. Good luck....

What are the problems you know about??? I wasnt aware of a whole list of problems, and since I own a 98, maybe I should know. I know most cars that are a new model have some quirks but I havnt noticed anything about mine. :/ or maybe there is a thread on here already about this? Thanks, dont mean to hi-jack a thread either. haha
