Default Security Light

What would cause the security light to come on out of no where on a 97.

I was sitting in my car while it was idleing, and the light on the dash came on. It stayed on for a couple minutes and when i started driving, it went out, and hasn't come back on since. (except for when i start the car, it comes on for a second then shuts off which is normal)

Could be your key getting worn or dirty. If so, it will let you know one day when you are in a hurry and the car will just sit and show you the light until it is ready to start, usually when you are finished filling up with gas and there are people waiting behind you!

my 95 would do that one year after we got a hurricane in fl.had to leave the camaro outside and some moisture got inside.like osducks said whenever you'd be in a hurry the light would come on.wait 5 minutes and try again.mine would also come on while driving and then go out too.when it came on i didnt want to shut it off.also noticed sometimes when my keys would be in the air conditioned cold room and would take them to the hot car would do the same.ever get alot of moisture in the car like leaving a t-top off while raining?

Holy, keys here are 100 bucks. Canada here remember.. its expensive for everything.

Ok, so i'm a hard top and there are no leaks in the drivers and rear seats area.. however, it does leak a bit when i power wash it near the hatch.. it doesn't soak it, but dampens the carpet..

So this light def came on when the car was running, i never shut it off, it literately went out when i put the car in drive..
weeeeeeird.

Power washers can sometimes push water past gaskets and seals. I always try not to power wash around windows and even the motor on cars with alot of electronics under the hood.

$100 for keys! WOW. Can't imagine what a set of heater core hoses cost ya!
