Road trip soon

None of the AutoZones or Advance or Napa or anything in my area do free oil changes. They do, however, sell you oil/filter at a discount price and you do the work yourself for free (no labor cost because you do it yourself). If someone told you they get their oil changed for free, that's what they meant.
My '96 has 290k miles, so I know the boat you're in (it had 275k when I bought it). Once I replace the transmission and differential over spring break, the only original part in the drivetrain will be the driveshaft itself, LOL.
If you haven't been driving this beast regularly before your road trip comes up, use a different vehicle. Like was stated above, you really need to make sure all the kinks are worked out before you take it on the long haul.

I have only had the car for a maybe about a month and a 2 weeks But it drived really well when I drove it back from saginaw to flint which was about a 45minute drive he was in what they cal the town house sections. And I just found a local mechanic who said that he wil put a new bumper and the serpentine belt on for me for on 30 what else should I ask him to look at while he is here? so i will know what to fix and buy?

At least CHECK everything that has been previously mentioned. In most cases, when you buy a used car from the owner, rather than dealer, it's a good idea to get a full inspection and tune up. Even if you buy from a dealer, it's a good idea, LOL.
Before taking it on a long trip, definitely get brakes and alignment checked. The things I always check before a long trip (even with vehicles I know are in top condition) are brake condition, good charge on the battery, topped off fluids (all of them, including windshield washer), tire pressure, good wiper blades, and a good ol' WOT test to make sure it has the ability to gun it for highway on-ramps, etc.
