Replacing Plugs

Alright, everyone has done it probably at least once. Lets have all your tricks/experiences/ideas/tools you have figure out work really well on replacing the plugs on the LT1. I know when I changed mine for the first time I was like WTF? Well, now I have the ac compressor t deal with (did not have one when I changed them the first time) Now I cannot even see the plug at the front left of the engine. I need to change mine again as I feel they have become fouled due to my EGR problem. What is the best tool/sure fire way to change them and while we are at it, what is the best plug for the LT1?

so far the ngk iridium, i am testing a bosch iridium plug at this time and they seem to be holding out. https://camaroforums.com/forum/93-02...ch-plug-65777/ i use a long handled ratchet with a head that swivels.

I deleted the AIR PUMP Tubing first. that made it a little easier to access all the plugs..
if you still have stock headers, maybe u should invest in new felpro header gaskets and just take them off to access all the plugs really easy..
but if your not trying to do that, the plugs toward the rear have to be accessed from the bottom. and some you can get from the top..
It's not hard

on a vehicle with stock exh manifolds you are kidding aren't you?

there are no tricks

#5 and 7 you get to from underneath. You simply use a socket with an open end wrench on #7 and use the pass through 7/8 socket for #5 ($20 at harbor freight for the entire set)

for #6 and #8 you use the pass through socket from up above

the rest you get to from above with the usual 3/8 handle and spark plug socket

OH.........no sane man has stock exhaust manifolds. I'm telling you how from the perspective of Pacesetter long tube headers

rarely have i been called sane. :) i think i just got a compliment. yep still takes me about an hour. i like to take my time and get the anti seize on em and get the wires on right.

lolol. yea stock exhaust mani's need to go on mine as well. with the cheap price on pacesetters y the hell not

jkeaton 09-13-2012 11:27 AM

got stock manifolds for now....I was able to muscle them all out from underneath the first time I did them, but now I got that AC compressor in there and it has severely limited the room on the passenger side.

Greg08 09-13-2012 01:42 PM

u got it!

jkeaton 09-13-2012 02:19 PM

I saw those pacesetters are cheap. I gotta keep all my smog stuff though. Ima just going to save up and have the entire exhaust redone sometime. Headers, high flow cat, etc. Get it all done at once.
