So I have a '95 3.4L v6 and I recently replaced the driveshaft (way too long story) and I wanted to know if I wanted to upgrade it to a v8 how long something like that would take? (prep etc...)

I know in the 98 z28's they started putting in LS1 engines rather than the LT1 that was used before then, would it be worth it to upgrade to that instead of an LS1?

If I were to just get a crate engine what would be the best option with the least crazy customization?

Don't get me wrong my v6 engine doesn't have anything wrong with it yet but I kinda would like to know what I would be getting myself into rather than getting all the parts and then realizing halfway through it that I can't do it at all lol

 

You'd need the subframe, PCM, wiring harness, transmission, driveshaft, front suspension, rear, fuel pump, rear brakes, and gauges from a V8 donor car. It's not worth the effort, just save up and buy a Z28/SS/Trans Am/Formula.

 

I agree. I have a 95 3.4l, and I don't know how many miles you have on yours but these things are tanks. I can still hit 125-130mph with mine. For some reason it has no governor..... oh well! =)

also: it has about 191k miles! I love it. Engine is stock. Trans is..... not.

 

I beg to differ, its worth it. OP If you are willing to do what I did then buy a v8 donor car and go to town.

Adding up the cost of your V6 car, the cost of a V8 donor car, and all the time you spend, is it really worth it over selling the V6 car and buying a Z? I know as a project for something different to do, or for being able to say "I did it" is one thing. But does it make economical sense once all is done?

If I had that kind of money and time I wouldn't think twice about dropping a built L29 into a small, better handling project car as opposed to an expensive and less powerful 4th gen swap. OP, how attached are you to your current car?

 

Cost of v6 car: $2500
Cost of the parts I left on before swap: $800
Cost of Donor car: $900
Cost of parts for the swap (most were unnecessary to do the swap simply: $1400
Total: $5600

Seems worth it since I get to keep v6 insurance (so much cheaper than z28) and historic tag it next year.

Also I still need do drop money into the 69z, but a new trans can wait until this is done :P

it seems you think so then so be it. Me, I wouldn't spend $5600 dropping in an engine unless it was completely rebuilt. My outlook of how to do things vs doing things correctly has changed over the years.

 

nope it was 2100 to do the motor, 2500 to buy the original camaro. so 5600 to have a 93 camaro with lt1. lol, im not one to talk concidering what i have in my 93.
