Replacing alternator..tensioner help

Default Replacing alternator..tensioner help

I need to replace my alternator in my 95 v6 3.8, but i am not sure how to loosen the tension on the belt so i can take the alternator off. I have included a pic of the tensioner on my camaro and i need to no exactly how to loosen the belt...thanks

i believe you use a 1/2 drive socket or wrench, it might be different on the v6s

it should be on the black wheel

Get on the black wheel and pull down, it should snap into place so you can then remove the belt.

use a boxed end wrench on the nut for the black pulley, the arm is spring loaded so you want to push on the wrench away from the belt

Just get a socket on the black pully and if you're not sure which way it goes try pushing one direction and then the other. You'll see the tensioner give and you should notice the belt loosen up. Pretty easy.

thanks i fixed it and got the alternator on, but when i took it for a quick drive then popped the hood it was really hot an i smelta little smoke, any ideas of what can be wrong or could it be because it has been sitting for a while??
