Reasons to keep the AIR and EGR systems

What do these even do? Help during cold startup and decrease polution is what I believe Iv heard in the past. The AIR takes up a lot of room and the EGR causes a lot of problems for just a pflexible pip running behind me block and im thinking about removing both of these systems next time I have my computer reprogrammed. Are there any major Cons / Pros of doing this? Its a daily driver and I dont want to make it unreliable, thanks in advance.

What is it in the way of exactly? I'm not really seeing the point of removing them. Did they put them in the cars for no reason? I'm pretty sure that in states with emissions testing (NC is one) that you can't pass without them.

Reason to keep them is it's a federal offence to remove them. They just do not enforce it but could start to as air quality becomes even more of an issue. You won't pass emissions which in some states is big now, and will be big in every state eventually.

I know that in NC, you have to pass emissions if the car is a 96 or newer. And it's not up to the individual testing station. They MUST scan the bar code on your registration card, and it MUST pass emissions. If it doesn't, the computer won't allow the test to be completed, and you fail. Once again, I'm still not sure why you would even want to disconnect them. I just ordered a new air pump myself yesterday, because I know I won't be able to pass inspection in a few months unless I fix it.

you can get your car tunned to past emissions with out the emission crap on it.
