Default rear end question need help

im going to check out a rear end from a ws6 80kmiles with traction and abs. it is 3.42 gears, my car is 3.23 if i put that in, what are the consequences? will the car not run properly because of the difference? with the speedo be off?

The speedo will be off, but that's an easy fix with any obdII programmer/scanner. If you don't have traction control on your car now then it won't plug in anyway so it won't matter. And you car already has ABS so that'll fit in with your car already. Why are you looking at a new one?

my car has traction and abs
the rear has been really loud the past two weeks, oil level is fine, took it to a few places and when they listened to it they said the rear can go soon, that its the pinion bearing making all the noise. what would i have to do with the obd scanner?

Well ideally you would want to take a look at the inside of the case, open it up yourself and check the fluid for metal. Check for any play in the bearings at the axle ends. It would probably be better and easier to just rebuild your rear end than just swap someone else's problem in. Rebuild yours and you know it's good and you don't have this other stuff to deal with and you don't know exactly what you're getting.

The obdII scanner, if able, will let you adjust the rear end gearing in the computer to correct your speedo. Which you wouldn't need if you rebuilt your rear end with the same gears.

10 bolts are always noisey, so I doubt your rear end is about to explode.

i wish you guys were closer so you could hear what im talking about, this is my first car experience with rear ends, so im a little edgy about it. I went to see a rear from a guy and he didnt even know what gears were in it, then when i told him that i needed 3.23 hes like o yeah now that i think of it these are 3.23s i couldnt even turn the wheel hubs, the calipers were on and yet the rotors looked pryed on an angle. long story short i ran for my life and the guy didnt even want to come down on price, he wanted 200 but the rear was covered in oil in the center with the condition of a 200 thousand mile rear.

I priced one place so far on a rebuild, the guy was like 500, and parts might be another 350 since its a performance car, does that sound right? whats a ball park for a rebuild?
