Random loss of power
Hey guys, I have a 95 3.4 camaro
Randomly when driving (most of the time when warm) my car will lose power, run crappy not really want to go anywhere and sounds like a boat lol. Not sure what the problem could be, I recently did my fuel pump, filter, plugs. I went to check the oil when this happened and notice antifreeze leaking from a small hose just under the intake where the filter hose connects, its a pretty steady drip onto my belt which causes it too spew all over the motor bay, Any thoughts on what I should do?? Replace those hose of course for the leak lol but could this cause my power loss?? |
coolant all over is not a good thing. better deal with that first. last thing you want to do is overheat it. are you seeing a check engine light coming on?

Mine stays on because I have a relay unplugged, |
If your plug wires are getting wet from the coolant it would cause your issue. Water spray is a backyard way to check the condition of your wires. Take a bottle of water and mist the engine. If it starts missing or you get a light show its time for new wires. I never liked the test because wires should be replace long before they fail a mist test.

scann for trouble codes and see what comes up.

The other thing that the coolant could possibly get on that would cause this issue is the ignition coils and icm. It doesnt take much at all. If those get just a little wet on this motor, it starts missing like crazy. I first noticed it when I went to wash off some caked on mud that somehow got in the engine bay of my last camaro. And if it does it only when warm, that would make sense. The coolant will build up pressure as your car gets warm, turning that drip into a spray. It usually leaves a residue so you can see where it sprayed. If its over your wires, coil packs and icm, that is most likely your issue.
Just take care of that hose first, and give an update. Also, relay or not, you can go to autozone, or midas, or some shop/parts store and they will usually do a free scan for you. That way you can tell if its anything besides your relay. |
