Default A question only 4th gen guys can answer.

I've got some remanuctured rear calipers for a 95. The pads have springs on them - I assuming they are anti-rattle springs. They hold the pad in place but they also shove the outboard pad into the rotor which just isn't going to work as it is going to generate a lot of heat and wear out the pads. Do I have these assembled wrong or is there something I am missing? I've asked this question on two other forums and nobody seems to know the answer. Any ideas?
thanks
Scott

I think you got drum brakes in the back which doesn't use calipers.

Haha, no seriously. Rear PBR calipers from an lt1 equiped car. I have what two stores say are the proper pads. Any suggestions.

How do I do that off my computer without having to post them on a website somewhere?

Welcome Ishmael, I see Capt. Ahab let you have some shore leave.

OK some times the springs do want to push the pads out a little but it should not push enough to cause much friction. usually after you pump the brakes a time or 2 you seat the spring properly and all is well.

To post a pic get a photobucket account (its free) and then use the [img...] tag for posting pics. Try to keep the pics at a 800x600 or so resolution to prevent the forum from getting messed up. Use a return between pics as well.

Craby, thanks for posting the photo for me.
Masey thanks for the tips. I'm hoping you are right about the pads. I'll find out soon enough.
You picked up on the name. The first time I got on a forum I asked myself "What should I call myself?" Right away "Call me Ishmael," popped into my head. At first I thought it was funny but then I started thinking about chasing something elusive and ultimately destructive and I decided I would try not to let things get out of hand. Unfortunately, while I started out well, things have begun to spiral. I'm building a 68 Firebird convertible. I pulled the engine and trans so I could put in new floor and toe boards (I live in Ontario). After I put a rebuilt engine back in I figured I should upgrade from manual drum brakes and I did so by putting in some c5 calipers in the front matched by the lt1 rears, which is pretty common and fairly cheap considering the stopping power you get. Sometime over the winter though I decided since I didn't get the front fenders put back on last year I might as well get some coil-overs, tubular control arms, a new rear - oh and c6 ls2 with a 4l65 because my brother-in-law bought a 97 vette and I couldn't have his car being better than mine. So much for Ishmael - I'm thinking about changing it to Ahab. And to think last fall I almost did the sane thing; I almost bought a 2000 z28 but the guy decided to put it away rather than sell it. That would have been the smart thing to do. Oh well.
Anyway, thanks for the help guys.
