Only the lifters were new. The push rods and rockers were cleaned and reused. When I cleaned the push rods there was absolutely NO wear what-so-ever on them. Now there is on the ends.

what valve springs did you use, stock? from the looks of it you either had a lack of oil or the lift and spring strength was putting to much pressure on them for there grade. hardened pushrods and upgraded rockers would be a good idea. did the motor get ran with the valve covers off so you could see the oil coming out of the pushrod/rockers?

If you reused the lifters and pushrods, made certain they were in the right holes, but not if they were upside down, then that could be part of the problem. Did you use any assembly lube on the pushrod ends?

Either way though and it looks like you will need to replace the rockers, lifters and pushrods.

i let everything soak in oil and bled the lifters before installing, then poured oil over them before putting the valve covers on. i never did do a running test to verify. im going to call melling tomorrow to see what they will do about their lifters making noise. if they wont refund us for the lifters, she will more than likely be getting a set of comp cams oe-r lifters and yella terra lightweight pushrods and rockers.

new question, is the stock rocker ratio 1.6? if so, should stiffer valve springs be used if stepping up to the next ratio? the lower inertia of the lightweight parts should be ok to stick with the stock springs, right?

I would imagine you would be fine so long as you dont go above 1.8 on the rockers. I am no expert in this part of the car but I cant imagine the need for stiffer springs with a slightly bigger cam and only a slight rocker ratio change. MusicMan would be the best source of advice here.

.413 to .507 isn't exactly slight =\ My bet is that the stock springs were binding under the load.

With the blurry pics, I can't see the striations you're talking about. From what I can tell though, the one end of the pushrod looks out of round, is it?

Here's a good sight. But they are looking for almost max. power not just a good street engine. Remember don't "over carb or over cam" for what your looking for.
