Pros and Cons of the 1993 LT1 Camaro
Ok, so the time for me to buy a car is drawing closer with each paycheck and soon I will beable to afford the one im looking at. My only question is, what are the pros and cons of the 93 Camaro Z28? Its got 124K miles on the engine. My school and work commute isnt huge and I only work maybe five out of seven days a week. Im looking for mechanical errors and defects I alreadyunderstand its not the most powerful 4th Gen. I just need to find out what im getting myself into. Oh yeah and im buying it from a dealership so its not some driveway pay and go.. its been inspected.

Ehhhh on '93's. They a funky computor that does not take to tuning very well and a slightly different trans (if auto), basicly the non-electric 4L60E. I would hold out and find a 94+.

First of all don't assume that if you find a car on a dealership lot that it is better. I bought mine from a dealership and it has some suspension problems and a junkyard steering column with a broken plate around the turn signal so the high beams don't work. Inspect any car you are considering buying either yourself or take it to a mechanic you trust. Also dealerships don't warranty cars that old. Your dealership porbably took it in trade adnd because it looked good decided to sell it on their lot rather than sell it to some no name lot. Just the voice of experience talking. Good luck with your search!

i have a 93 z and i love it, mine has about 142k on the car but never had any major problems with it, i just recently put a msd optispark in mine that was vented so dont worry about that, but ive seen a lot of aftermarket parts that were 94+ so its up to you

whats this vented optispark? Starter? Also, by law dealerships are supposed to inspect the car themselves and make sure everything is in working order and repaired. Other wise its a penalty of the lemon law isnt it?

If you plan to modify the car, the 93 is an odd bird and a lot of the bolt on stuff is made onlyfor 94 & newer. The PCM is an old style with removable MEMCAL chip, and the transmission is the old non electronic 700R4/4L60, also the brakes were updated in 94. The manual 6 speed had problems, and GM stopped installing it for the latter 1/2 of the year and for part of 94. The T top was available but had problems with sealing, which were resolved in later years. The distributor (Optispark) had problems with condensation which caused it to misfire or crap out altogether. This was partially resolved on later years by venting air through it. The 93 was a typical first year product, and as suchnot everything was sorted out when it went on sale.
