Pressed for time, need help!
So, I'm in the process of replacing the turn signal switch, and I get up to this point:

The repair guides from Autozone say to remove bolts on the upper steering column, but I don't see any bolts anywhere. Someone please tell me how to remove this plate, I can see the switch right behind it!
(Also, I'll be doing a write-up for this and replacing the steering wheel once this is complete, so the faster, the better)

That plate is spring loaded, you need a special tool to press that plate in and remove the clip around the steering shaft. I've done it with my hands but you'll never get the clip back in without the tool.
Seriously, you guys are awesome! Craby, the manuals would have helped if I knew what to look for, haha. But seriously, thanks for that. Basic, I used the lock plate remover and was able to find the clip to take off. I figured I only had to use it to get the snap ring off for the horn connector. Guess I was wrong...
So, I finally got the switch replaced, new wheel with short hub adapter and quick release installed, and I've run into a slew of new problems:
1) When I turn the wheel, the plate under the short hub adapter turns with it. Can't think of the name, but it's a plastic ring that was right before the lock plate. Could it be that the short hub adapter is too tight/not tight enough? This may also be causing problem number two:
2) When I turn the wheel, the turn signal sometimes gets caught and starts blinking. I know it's moving the switch because the arm moves with it.
3) Wiper controls are FUBAR. Turning the **** does nothing, same with if I press on the switch for washer fluid. Seeing as it's supposed to rain in the next couple of days, this one is most important

Is the piece that's spinning yellow? If so that's the airbag you really don't want that to spin could cause the bag to blow or malfunction. As for the turn signal it sounds like the hub is too tight. And the wipers, that sounds like you didn't plug it in.
I'll check the hub again to make sure it's not too tight, although it's barely on. There is no more airbag, the new wheel is an NRG wheel, so there's only a horn button. The piece that's spinning is yellow and black. Craby's reference post suggests it's the airbag and horn connector. Should I just cut the wires for the airbag connector and jump it to get rid of the "Air Bag" light on the dashboard?
So, I've been also following this site for most of the tear down as well:
How to replace a Turn Signal Switch on a 94-01 Gen 1 W-Body
And It's the clockspring that was turning with the wheel. Loosened up the short hub adapter and now it doesn't go past the little notches in the column. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly happy with how loose the whole assembly feels. So here's a question for the pros: Is it ok to remove the clockspring altogether? It does nothing for the horn assembly, and I have no airbag now. How important is this piece?
