Default Powerband

I've been searching all over this site and google.. and I'm a terrible searcher I guess or I've had no luck. What is the powerband for a 98 LS1 6 speed camaro? I've been searching for the longest time and I have no idea. If someone could help me that would be great.

No one knows the powerband of these cars..? What do you guys shift at when your at the strip or racing? It's completely stock besides the air intake by the way.

You shift when the red needle hits the red markings on the tach.... I would say your powerband is between 3,000 to 5,000 rpm

Oh okay, cuz people said you wanna shift above your horspower peak that way you'll fall back into it, but the other theory is to shift at your torque peak.. which is around 4000k

Best bet? Experiment. Take some days at the track and have some fun, find out what works best for y'self.

Seriously, draggin' down a strip of asphalt has got to be more fun than sitting at your computer, posting on an internet forum

I think it depends on your engine a bit. I race my 68 its got an auto, but I shift it anyways and I don't shift until my tach is pinned at 8,000. I would say it is more about the limits you want to push your car to.

So the peak horsepower and torque don't count towards where to shift? Hmm.. so just go to redline every time your tryin to take off?

well my car is still accelerating until then. If your pushing your car into the redline and your not getting any benefits from it, its not worth it. I would never launch that high I would say launching your like 2500. last thing you want to do is pull up to the line floor it drop the clutch and watch your u-joints break and have to be towed home.

There's more to consider than just the powerband of the car when you're racing. There's also gearing, traction etc. that you need to consider. Your best bet is probably going to be shifting at redline. The LS1 has great top end.

Haha yeah I would love to try it out Saint Ebony. Nearest track is 3 1/2 hours away though so it's tough to find a time to get there with University and such.

Yeah there is a lot to worry about, but I was more or less focusing on powerband just so I knew. Might as well learn everything that way you'll have a little edge with everything.
